据中国新闻网报道，“衡水体”最早来自衡水中学，因其文体严谨、整洁、美观，被誉为“手写印刷体”“考试利器”。
有不少网友表示上学时确实练习过英文“衡水体”，有人还拥有几乎一模一样的字帖。

有人认为其会磨掉学生的个性，但也有老师认为学生通过练习写出的“衡水体”只能说大致相似，谈不上千篇一律。学生们虽都比着字帖练习，但总会和字帖有差距，“每个人的书写习惯不一样，学生有自己的理解，在规范的基础上进行个性化的发挥，练习‘衡水体’不影响学生个性发展。”
