Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday morning attended a meeting celebrating the 25th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland and the inaugural ceremony of the sixth-term government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR). Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, is present at the Macao East Asian Games Dome, where the events are being held.

庆祝澳门回归祖国25周年大会暨澳门特别行政区第六届政府就职典礼20日上午在澳门东亚运动会体育馆隆重举行。中共中央总书记、国家主席、中央军委主席习近平出席。

China extends visa-free transit stays to 240 hours, increases eligible ports to 60

China's National Immigration Administration (NIA) announced on Tuesday that the permitted stay for foreign nationals entering China under the visa-free transit policy for purposes such as tourism, business, visits, and family reunions has been extended from the original 72 hours and 144 hours to 240 hours or 10 days, as part of the latest measures to further relax and optimize the visa-free transit policy. The policy takes effect immediately.

中国国家移民管理局17日宣布，将以旅游、商务、访问、团聚等为由入境中国并享受过境免签政策的外国人在华停留时间由原来的72小时和144小时延长至240小时（10天），这是进一步放宽和优化过境免签政策的最新举措。该政策自即日起生效。

At the same time, the NIA announced that the number of ports eligible for the visa-free transit policy will be increased from the original 39 to 60, including Chengdu Tianfu International Airport Port in Chengdu, Southwest China's Sichuan Province and Sanya Phoenix International Airport Port in South China's Hainan Province.

同时，适用过境免签政策的口岸由原来的39个增至60个，其中包括四川成都天府国际机场口岸和海南三亚凤凰国际机场口岸。

Also, as part of the latest policy announced on Tuesday, the permitted activity areas for visa-free foreign nationals will be expanded to 24 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities including Shanxi, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hainan, and Guizhou provinces from the original 19.

此外，外国人免签活动地区将从原来的19个省、自治区、直辖市扩大到包括山西、安徽、江西、海南、贵州等在内的24个省、自治区、直辖市。

So far, there are 54 countries that are eligible for the 240-hour transit visa exemption policy.

目前，适用240小时过境免签政策的国家已有54个。

The latest data released by the NIA on Tuesday shows that from January to November 2024, there were 29.218 million foreign entries into China through various ports, an 86.2 percent year-on-year increase. Of these, 17.446 million entries were made visa-free, a year-on-year growth of 123.3 percent.

国家移民管理局17日发布的最新数据显示，2024年1月至11月，全国各口岸入境外国人2921.8万人次，同比增长86.2%；其中通过免签入境1744.6万人次，同比增长123.3%。

The Guizhou High People's Court has sentenced Yu Huaying, who was charged with abducting and trafficking children, rejecting Yu's appeal and upholding the death sentence in the first trial on Thursday.

19日，贵州省高级人民法院对被指控拐卖儿童的余华英作出判决，驳回其上诉，维持一审死刑判决。

The defendant Yu Huaying trafficked 17 children, resulting in the separation of 12 families and the severing of familial bonds. The parents of the 17 children have endured years of hardship in their search for their children. After failing to find them, some parents succumbed to depression to death, while others experienced broken marriages and shattered families.

被告人余华英拐卖了17名儿童，导致12个家庭骨肉分离，亲情断裂。17名儿童的父母为寻找子女多年来颠沛流离，在寻找未果后有的父母抑郁而终，有的家庭妻离子散、家破人亡。

The Guiyang Intermediate People's Court on Oct 25 pronounced death sentence to Yu after a retrial in Guizhou province. The Guiyang court, while announcing the conviction and death sentence to the accused, also stripped of her political rights for life and ordered that all her personal assets be confiscated. 

10月25日，贵阳市中级人民法院在贵州省对余华英进行重审后，判处其死刑，剥夺政治权利终身，并处没收个人全部财产。
