Former U.S. President Donald Trump survived a suspected assassination attempt but was hurt on one ear during his election campaign rally in Butler, in the state of Pennsylvania, on Saturday.

当地时间7月13日，美国前总统特朗普在宾夕法尼亚州巴特勒市举行的竞选集会现场遭未遂暗杀，一只耳朵受伤。

The Republican presidential candidate is claimed to be "safe," but the shooter and a rally attendee were killed, and two spectators were critically injured.

Video footage showed that Trump was making a speech when popping sounds rang out over the rally. Screams could be heard in the crowd, and Trump was swiftly escorted off the stage by Secret Service agents. Blood could be seen on the side of his head and his ear. He was quickly escorted into a vehicle.

China's GDP grew by 5 percent year-on-year in the first half of 2024 to 61.68 trillion yuan($8.49 trillion), showcasing a steady economic rebound, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Monday.

国家统计局15日称，2024年上半年我国国内生产总值达61.68万亿元，同比增长5%，经济总体稳中有进。

In the second quarter, the economy rose by 4.7 percent in comparison to a year earlier after a 5.3 percent growth in the first quarter of the year. On a quarter-on-quarter basis, China's GDP increased by 0.7 percent in the second quarter of the year, the NBS said.

一季度国内生产总值同比增长5.3%，二季度增长4.7%。从环比看，二季度国内生产总值增长0.7％。

Figures released by the NBS showed China's value-added industrial output, a gauge of activity in the manufacturing, mining and utilities sectors, grew by 5.3 percent in June from a year earlier after a 5.6 percent rise in May.

国家统计局数据显示，5月份，规模以上工业增加值（衡量制造业、采矿业和公用事业经济活动的指标）同比增长5.6%，6月份同比增长5.3%。

Cheng Pei-pei, the pioneering Chinese actress dubbed the “Queen of Swords” and considered among the first female action stars who made her name in the Shaw Brothers classic Come Drink With Me and later had a memorable turn as the villain Jade Fox in Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, has died. She was 78.

被誉为“武侠皇后”的中国著名女演员郑佩佩去世，享年78岁。她是最早一批的女性武打演员，因出演邵氏兄弟影业出品的经典影片《大醉侠》而声名大噪，后来又在李安执导的电影《卧虎藏龙》中饰演反派玉狐，创造了这一经典角色。

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce that the rumors are true. Our mother, Cheng Pei-pei, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on July 17,” Cheng’s family said in a statement posted to Facebook. “In 2019, our mom was diagnosed with a neurodegenerative, atypical parkinsonism syndrome – unofficially, corticobasal degeneration (CBD). It is a rare disease with symptoms similar to Parkinson’s disease, however, current treatments cannot slow the progression. She chose not to make this news public so that she could deal with her condition in private and spend her remaining time with her children and grandchildren.”

The rescue operation at the site of the department store fire in Zigong City, southwest China's Sichuan Province, was completed as of 3 a.m. on Thursday, according to the local fire and rescue headquarters.

四川自贡高新区生态环境与应急管理局发布情况通报，自贡市九鼎大楼“7·17火灾”事故现场救援已于7月18日凌晨3时结束。

A total of 16 people have been killed, and there are no longer any trapped individuals.

The fire in the 14-story building, located in a high-tech zone in the city, was reported at approximately 6 p.m. on Wednesday, and there was a significant amount of thick smoke at the scene.

According to preliminary investigations, the fire was caused by construction work.
